Stripe was founded in 2010 by Patrick Collison and John and Patrick Collison. It is headquartered in San Francisco, California and has offices in Dublin, Ireland; Singapore; Tokyo, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Paris, France; New York City; and London. Stripe raised $245 million from investors like Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz and PayPal before becoming a unicorn in 2018.
Stripe provides software developer kits (SDKs) that enable businesses to accept payments over the internet using credit cards, Apple Pay, Android Pay or other payment methods through their websites or mobile applications. The option to accept cryptocurrency payments was added in 2018 with support for bitcoin, ether and litecoin.
